Infection Control Flags are assigned to patients in Epic. Adding these flags to a query, in combination with COVID-19 lab tests, can help identify cohorts of patients for COVID-19 related studies. The flags include,

* COVID-19 Exposure flag: assigned in Epic to asymptomatic individuals with known exposure to COVID-19.
* COVID-19 Positive flag: assigned in Epic to individuals who have tested positive for COVID-19 by nucleic acid amplification test (NAAT).
* COVID-19 Presumed flag: assigned in Epic to individuals with symptoms consistent with COVID-19 without positive NAAT to confirm.
* COVID-19 Risk flag: assigned in Epic to individuals with symptoms consistent with COVID-19 and undergoing evaluation; some may have one or more negative test results,but interpretation of results is not complete.
* COVID-19 Routine Test flag (also known as Clearance-CoV) was retired in Epic on 5/11/2020.When it was in use it was assigned to individuals who were deemed asymptomatic but being tested for COVID-19 prior to a surgery or as a re-test.

The Center for Integrated Healthcare Data Research (CIHDR) offers Medicare and Medicaid claims data originating from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS).

The Medicare, Medicaid, and various commercial claims databases contain information on demographics (age, gender, race/ethnicity, etc.), enrollment start and end dates, dispensed medications and performed procedures and the associated dates, and medical diagnosis with its date and setting (inpatient care, outpatient care, or in a skilled nursing facility). Linking RPDR (EHR) clinical data to CMS claims data will provide robust and comprehensive data for understanding patient outcomes.

Medications are grouped by type or route. They are derived from several source systems associated with hospital encounters, emergency care, surgical day care, dialysis, newborns and research.
Medication data is organized using the National Drug File Reference Terminology (NDFRT) and RxNorm codes. Epic and legacy data, as well as a subset of National Drug Codes, are mapped to the corresponding RxNorm values. Medications within the hierarchy can be found through the source coding system or by searching on the generic or brand name.
